Getting started

What is Trip Tracker?

One shared timeline for a trip's flights, hotels, restaurants, tours, rental cars, and anything else you've booked — instead of scattering confirmation numbers across six different group chats. Everyone in the group adds their own bookings, and everyone sees the whole trip in one place, sorted by date.

How do I create a trip?

Tap Trips, then the + button (or "New trip" if you don't have any yet). Give it a name and, optionally, a destination and dates — you can always fill those in later from the trip's own settings.

Inviting your group

How do I invite people to a trip?

Open the trip's Members page to get its invite code or a shareable link. Anyone who enters the code (or opens the link) on the Join tab is added to the trip as an editor — able to add their own items, but not to remove the trip or manage other members.

What can members actually do?

Owners can rename or delete the trip and manage members. Owners and editors can both add itinerary items. Viewers can only look. Regardless of role, editing or deleting a specific item is limited to whoever added it — not any owner or editor — so everyone can plan independently without stepping on each other's bookings.

Itinerary items

How do I add a flight, hotel, or reservation?

From a trip, tap the + button. Pick a type (flight, lodging, car rental, restaurant, tour, cruise, train, or other) and the form adapts to what that type actually needs — airline and seat for a flight, check-in/out for lodging, party size for a restaurant, and so on.

Why can't I edit an item someone else added?

By design — only the person who added an item can edit or delete it, even if you're the trip's owner. It keeps everyone's own bookings under their own control. If something needs to change, ask whoever added it, or remove them from the trip's Members page and re-add it yourself.

Can I discuss an item with the group?

Yes — open any itinerary item and scroll down to Comments. Any trip member can post there, regardless of who added the item, so it's a good place to ask "should we push this flight later?" without starting a separate group chat. Comments don't support editing or replies — just a simple running thread. You can delete your own comment any time; the trip's owner can also remove any comment on the trip, for basic moderation. Other members are notified when you comment, the same way they're notified about item changes.

Cost summary

How is the trip total calculated?

Every itinerary item with a cost gets added up automatically — tap the cost bar at the top of a trip to expand a per-member breakdown of who's added what. Items with no cost entered just aren't counted; there's no splitting or settling-up built in, it's a running total only.

Push notifications

What do push notifications tell me?

You'll get notified when someone on a trip you're part of adds or changes an item, joins the trip, or has their role changed or is removed — even with the app closed. You're never notified about your own actions. Turn them on from Account.

Why won't notifications turn on for me on iPhone?

iOS only supports push notifications for web apps that have been added to the home screen first (Share → Add to Home Screen), then opened from there — not from a regular Safari tab. Once it's installed that way, the toggle on Account will work normally.

Biometric unlock

What does "Biometric unlock" do?

It's a quick local lock on a session you're already logged into — like enabling Face ID on a banking app. You still log in with your password the first time; after that, opening the app again asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint instead of retyping anything. It never talks to a server and doesn't work across devices — it's not a sign-in method, just a faster way back in on this one device. Turn it on from Account.

Passkeys

What's the difference between a passkey and biometric unlock?

A passkey is a real, passwordless way to log in — not just a local unlock. Register one from Account, and you can sign in with Face ID/Touch ID/fingerprint on any device signed into the same Apple ID or Google account, without typing your email or password there at all, since passkeys sync through your phone or computer's own password manager. If you don't see a "Sign in with a passkey" option, this deployment hasn't enabled passkey login yet.

How do I remove a passkey?

From Account, under Passkeys, tap Remove next to it. That stops it from working for Trip Tracker, but it may still linger in your device's own passkey/password settings — remove it there too if you want it fully gone.

Account & data

How do I change my name?

From Account, edit "Full name" and save — it updates everywhere your name is shown, including "Added by" labels on items you've created.

How do I log out?

There's a Log out button at the bottom of Account. If you have biometric unlock turned on, logging out clears it too — you'll need your password the next time you sign in on this device.

What if I forget my password?

Tap "Forgot your password?" on the log-in screen and enter your email — we'll send a link to set a new one. If you were following an invite link when this happened, opening that email link finishes the reset and takes you right back to the invite, instead of dropping you at your trip list.

How do I delete my account?

From Account, scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete my account." This is permanent — it removes your account and personal data. If you solely own a trip that other people are still on, deletion is blocked until you delete that trip or it no longer has other members, so deleting your account can't silently wipe out a trip out from under everyone else.
